Postcard: Little Havana, Miami

MIAMI — Greetings from Little Havana, the sliver of all things Cuba centered on Calle Ocho (8th street), west of downtown. I enjoyed a personalized tour of Marlins Park (not because I paid for privacy, but because no one else showed up), where I learned about the Marlins Triple Play 5K. I signed up, and two days later I crossed home plate at my favorite team’s ballpark!

On a food tour along Calle Ocho, I got my caffeine fix with a shot of Cuban coffee. If you’re a fan of cappuccinos, make sure to order a “Cortado” at a “ventanita,” a walk-up coffee shop window. I saw a Floridian iguana while sipping a mojito in the picturesque backyard cabana at Old’s Havana Cuban Bar. Next door, generations of Cuban-Americans played dominoes at an outdoor park. Chickens roam wild in Little Havana, but they’re protected so do no harm if you visit!
