Postcard: Dallas, Texas

Warm regards from Dallas, Texas, where the August heat greeted me soon after I left DFW airport. The Rangers won their Wednesday afternoon game at Arlington’s Globe Life Field, where I perused the concession menus for the most aggressive barbecue concoction. Thursday morning, my companions gave me a classier cultural experience at Interabang books, an inviting, independent bookshop, where I browsed the travel and local interest sections. Friday, we explored the upscale Harwood District just north of downtown. The Ann & Gabriel Barbier-Mueller museum showcases an impressive samurai collection. Downstairs, we enjoyed happy hour at the bright, indoor-outdoor bar and grill. My brother treated us to the tasting menu at Tei-An, a fine Japanese restaurant in the Arts District, before we soaked in the night skyline from atop the Reunion Tower. We finished the night in the Library at Babou’s, a speakeasy-like cocktail lounge and underground nightclub.
